“We receive service that we did not even expect”
Before the pandemic, 90 % of work at the intellectual property rights specialist company Berggren was done at the office, like in most other Finnish companies. With COVID-19 restrictions, remote work became part of the working norm at Berggren as well. At the same time, their lease on their current office was about to expire, which meant the time was right to reconsider the need for space and the new ways of working.
“We had already began to question whether we needed designated work stations for everyone. With COVID we noticed that our work was split pretty much 50-50 between remote and office work. We felt that the 700 m2 premises we had at the time was too big,” says Berggren’s HR Manager Kati Sasse.
“We started the project really swiftly and involved our staff in the decision-making. One of the largest questions was whether we would stay in Hervanta or did we want to move closer to Tampere city centre. Naturally, there were lots of opinions and we had numerous discussions concerning the location of our future premises location and what they should be like,” Sasse continues.
New methods, new environment
After considering some options, Berggren decided on the Valtatie 30 business park at Hatanpään valtatie. As the employees saw the layout and plan of their future offices, the perception was quite positive and the change was seen as a positive move. New methods would be easier to implement when the environment was also new. Instead of designated work stations, employees reserve a work station and parking space for those days when they are at the office. The company also wanted to keep their spacious lounge area for spontaneous encounters in the new premises.
The entire process got going very swiftly and the pace was kept up throughout, which garnered praise from the people involved in the relocation project as well as the staff at large. Castellum’s local partners, Property Manager Erkko Mäenpää and Lease Manager Jukka Koivistoinen, also received high praise and thanks for smooth co-operation, open communication and that all agreed matters were completed on schedule and as agreed.
”The lease negotiations with Jukka gave a very positive impression of how the rest of the project could be expected to go, and the same continued with Erkko,” Sasse says.
“There were no communications interruptions at any point of the project. The architect and the construction engineers participated in the planning and we were able to raise all of our questions immediately. The way they operated felt efficient and made us feel safe,” say IP specialists Anne Miikkulainen and Katja Rautiainen who were involved in the relocation project.
Property that radiates high-quality and reliability
“A strongsense of brand emanates from the Valtatie 30 office premises. Immediately as you walk in, the general feel is of high-quality and modernity. A lot of our work is confidential, so it is important to us that our physical environment also inspires reliability. This was one of our criteria for finding a location that suits our brand,” Sasse says.
“We received service that we did not even know to ask for, but which was very significant at that moment. The property maintenance guys came and introduced themselves to us, which always makes it easier to deal with people, and now we knew who to contact. We can warmly recommend the Valtatie 30 office building to everyone as their new premises. First and foremost, Castellum’s local partners were the key factors with whom the entire project proceeded effortlessly and efficiently,” state Sasse, Miikkulainen and Rautiainen together.
